The duo then meet Ova Asblorn , who owns the bar and considers it his second chapter after his first business back in Norway. Shawn notices a fellow patron eyeing them threateningly and Ova explains that this is his son Per , who is not pleased with his father's career choices. Karen accosts Juliet before she leaves the station, and Juliet asks her excitedly whether she got the California police commissioner role she was being considered for. Karen says that there is still a final interview to get through, and then reminds Juliet that she should be honest about her secret investigation of Lassiter's case. As Juliet is about to leave, Selene joins her on her trip to Santa Barbara because she wants to scope out the Dolores situation.
Lassiter's nurse, Dolores O'Riordan , comes in and asks to speak to Shawn and Gus privately. She reveals that she knows the duo have other motives in visiting Lassiter, and they admit that Lassiter has told them about mysterious goings-on at the home and wants them to investigate. Although she feels very attracted to Gus, Dolores says that it is only natural for someone in Lassiter's drugged-up state to be seeing things and orders the duo not to feed into his fantasies. In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, Lassie begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Also set to reprise their roles from the series and films are Maggie Lawson as Juliet O’Hara, Timothy Omundson as Carlton Lassiter, Kirsten Nelson as Karen Vick and Corbin Bernsen as Henry Spencer. It's even rarer still that shows get to come back again, and again, and yet again in the form of one movie after another.

Juliet says that Ova ran a major crime syndicate back in Norway , from which he only retired when he almost died. Shawn remembers Ova's scar and deduces from the similarity of his scar to Wilkerson's that Ova also suffered a stroke and was also treated at the Herschel House. They now believe Ova to be Herschel's outside man, but those suspicions are dispelled when Morrissey draws their attention to the freezer and they find Ova's corpse inside. When Morrissey suddenly flees and they hear a sound coming from the other room, they decide to move towards it cautiously. They start eating the chips but are discovered by Dr. Emile Herschel, the founder, namesake and head doctor of the recovery home.
Lassiter sees the hallucination of his father right after seeing it. The next day, Lassiter recounts what he witnessed to Shawn and Gus. They have doubts about what Lassiter claimed to see but agree to check out the stables. Shawn and Gus beat Juliet home and frantically try to prepare for the special dinner with Gus spreading rose petals on the floor while Shawn prepares a dinner comprised of popcorn, pretzels, and jelly beans.

Suddenly the two hear a sound outside, and when they look out of the window they see a bleeding man stumbling for the home's equine therapy stables. Lassiter fears his nightmares are causing him to go insane, but his father appears beside him in a hallucination to reassure him. 2020 has been the year of revisiting classic, beloved sitcoms from the 2000s.
But very few shows have ever existed quite likePsych, a crime procedural mixed with comedy and drama and fake psychic elements which boasts some of the most dedicated and enthusiastic television fans among its audience. Shawn and Gus investigate a Viking's Bar and after being chased out crash into a hideout where the supposedly dead CEO is hiding. The CEO is sniped and killed and Buzz, now an SBPD detective, investigates. Juliet and Selene arrive and Shawn finds a positive pregnancy test in her car. Attempting to prove that the CEO's silent partner, Wilkerson, who is in Lassiter's hospital, is faking a coma, Gus and Shawn try to tickle him but it fails and they're kicked out.

He explains that Ova's decision to better his life after suffering a stroke dashed his hopes of succeeding his father as head of the crime syndicate. To make matters worse, Ova's stay at the Herschel House also made him a target for blackmail. However, Per made the best of the situation by becoming a partner in the scheme and working as the outside man. Suddenly Selene enters the room and reveals she visited Dolores. Still convinced that Gus likes Dolores back, she tells him she can live with his choice to date Dolores instead.
The substance injected into his IV starts to affect Lassiter who has another hallucination of his father talking to him. Lassiter is doubtful of his ability to recover and how useful he could be if he doesn't fully recover. During their conversation, you find out that Lassiter's father died due to a blood clot during a routine bypass surgery while Lassiter was young. Lassiter's father convinces him to fight, after which Lassiter pulls a gun and shoots his IV bag. His father indicates the gun is actually one of three Lassiter has hidden in the room. Lassiter then starts to read Dolores her rights arresting her.
He also warns Shawn and Gus that it is only dangerous if they continue to fuel Lassiter's fantasies by taking them seriously. Shawn and Gus return to Lassiter's room to tell him they cannot help him, and that the things he is seeing are not real and probably caused by his medications. Then Morrissey, who jumped out the window after Shawn and Gus previously left the room with Dolores, walks through the door with a severed human hand in his mouth. The hand convinces Shawn and Gus to look into Lassiter's claims. Dolores is putting Lassiter to bed and reveals that the pills he normally takes have been replaced with some that will kill him instead.
There are flashes of Lassiter in the ambulance while the police radio reports an officer down and the suspect is at large. Next, Lassiter wakes up in a recovery house scared by Shawn and Gus standing over him screaming "Surprise!" Shawn and Gus point to a large poorly and barely wrapped box. It is Morrissey, the rescue dog Shawn liberated from the villains in the previous Psych movie. Shawn and Gus explain the Chief returned the dog to them because he kept biting her daughter. Lassiter's nurse, Dolores, enters the room and informs them pets are not permitted at the Herschel House, a luxury recovery house for stroke survivors.
Shawn and Gus have been trying to find Morrissey for an hour when Shawn receives a call from Juliet. She conveys her disappointment in him, and Shawn feels genuinely sorry. However, Juliet then tells a lie of her own by claiming to be stuck at the airport when she is really at the scene of Lassiter's shooting.
